2026-27 Greenbrier County Health Alliance Food Systems Outreach AmeriCorps

Greenbrier County Health Alliance (GCHA) conducted a community food system assessment during September-October 2025. A total of 185 responses provided a view of food access needs and lack of retail food opportunities, a scarcity of SNAP-eligible providers and limited access to fresh local foods.  An organized collaborative is developing relationships and strategies to address these needs to make food more accessible to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and financial instability.  A county-wide plan to engage farmers and food pantry partners, with a weekly mobile market outreach plan will offer SNAP, WIC and SNAP Stretch and expand food retail opportunities to residents in rural areas of Greenbrier County.

GCHA seeks to add a Food Systems AmeriCorps member to join our team to provide support to our Patch Partnership and mobile market outreach programs by building relationships, supporting community strategies, organizing volunteers, and assisting with communication and social media.

Member Duties:  The GCHA Food Systems Outreach AmeriCorps will be based at the Clingman Center in Lewisburg and will work to strengthen community outreach, partnerships with farmers, community leaders, and non-profits, and assist with the sustainable development of a network for county-wide Mobile Food Pantry deliveries.  Additional duties include: data collection, photo documentation, storytelling on social media, increasing awareness, building capacity and sustaining programs to serve families and address food insecurity.

Benefits:  Members choose between an Educational Award of $7,395.00, OR End of Service Stipend of $1,800 upon successful completion of service, AND a Living Allowance of $886.96 twice a month.

Members also receive student loan deferment, professional development training, and, if eligible, health care benefits and childcare assistance.

AmeriCorps members who complete a term(s) of service in West Virginia may be eligible for a tuition waiver to WV state institutions of higher learning.  Make a positive impact on our communities while growing professionally and personally through our leadership development trainings.
